What is online learning like?

Online learning is an innovative way to further your learning in subjects of interest and meet the prerequisites for postsecondary education, including courses that may not be available through your local school.

Also known as “e-learning,” online learning courses are Grades 9 to 12 credit courses delivered entirely using the internet. Coursework is completed in a Learning Management System, a secure platform which allows for students and teachers to share learning, collaborate, and submit coursework online.

Although online courses are scheduled in your timetable, learning takes place asynchronously. Online courses do not require you to be physically present with other students or with your teacher in the school, except where needed for examinations, final evaluations, or to get individual support from an educator or caring adult.

Interested in enrolling? Please connect with the guidance counsellor at your school to see if this course is available to you. Your counsellor will support your enrollment in the course, if available, or work with you to find an alternative in which you can enroll.

Why choose online learning?

Interactive, engaging, and fun

Do more than just read on a screen. Through videos and interactive learning activities, you can discover and share new ideas, collaborate with your peers and explore different concepts to deepen your understanding of the topics.

Teacher-led

In the publicly funded education system, online learning courses are taught by certified teachers, who support you to work through the course. They foster your learning through engaging activities and assessments, group interactions, and one-on-one support tailored to your individual needs.

Supported by your school

You can continue to take advantage of the support offered in your school, whether it's academic support, guidance, mental health or wellbeing. The empathetic adults who support your success in your face-to-face courses are also available to support you through your online courses and accompany you throughout your online learning.

Flexible

Your online teacher will expect you to connect to your class daily, just as they would in face-to-face learning. You can develop autonomy, digital literacy skills, and new ways of learning that will prepare you for success in an ever-changing world.
